Today Is Your Birthday!

I have a lot of memories of dad singing...not full songs but little pieces of songs, over and over and over again!  A few that I remember are:

"Davey, Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier"

"We are the 7 friendly giants"  (that still runs through my head sometimes)

"Jeremiah was a bull frog, was a good friend of mine"

Can't forget his favorite, Alan Jackson, "Let it be Christmas"

The one that I'll certainly NEVER forget  -- Each year on my birthday, I would wake up to dad singing The Beatles...."Today is your birthday, bada bada bada ba bum!!  It's my birthday too!"  He would sing it ALL day long, over and over.  I would even get phone calls.  I'm gonna miss that song!

I'm sure there are plenty other little tunes he sang.  Feel free to add your favorites!

  2. Tiffany likes this one. "N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestle's makes the very best!" Don't know where it came from but he always sang that little tune.

    2. I just listened to the song online...... I'm convinced dad was just as confused about the lyrics as I was. I'm not going to correct anymore, I think your all know what song I'm talking about. Btw Bryan I do recall the big john song as well.

  4. I heard "Big John, Big Bad John" on the radio the other day and remembered dad singing that song on occasion too. It wasn't as often as some of these other ones but it reminded me of him. Does anyone else remember this one?

  5. I love it when you guys remember these songs cause I can't remember them on my own. But when I hear the words it makes me laugh and I can't see how I didn't think of it myself. One of the ones he sang when we were dating I can kind of remember: Everybody wants my body sometimes. I'm sure that was Ricks lyrics not the songs. Did you ever hear him sing it?

    1. Yes I remember. I believe the actual lyrics are "everybody wants somebody sometime". Dad changed the lyrics from "somebody" to "my body". This reminds me of another song he would sing. "If I told you that you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me".

  6. We were watching Snow White with the kids on Friday night and the dwarves were singing "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work I go." I immediately thought of dad, walking out the door on his way back to work singing, "I owe, I owe, so it's off to work I go."

  7. One more came to me....how could we forget him singing on the way to church..."Sunday school, sure is fun, bring your friends in one by one." I used to hate that song because he usually sang it when we complained about having to go to Sunday School.
